Hazardous Materials (HazMat) Expert

OBJECTIVE ICON.png

Objective:

Maintaining a Catalog on a ship throughout its life is a prerequisite for Safe and Environmentally Proper Ship Recycling (HKC). It is enshrined in the Hong Kong Convention, as well as in the International Regulations. The requirements of the Regulation for the compilation of the Catalog are in fact based almost entirely on the corresponding requirements of the HKC. A List of Hazardous Materials Registration established in accordance with the Regulations must be drawn up in accordance with the relevant instructions of the IMO (International Maritime Organization).

The purpose of the Catalog is to provide information on the hazardous materials on board the ship. The purpose is to protect the health and safety and to prevent environmental pollution in ship recycling facilities. The information provided by the Catalog will be used by the aforementioned facilities to select how to manage the quantities and types of hazardous materials listed in the Catalog of Hazardous Materials.

The "IHM process" followed is the entire process of drafting and maintaining an IHM throughout the life of a ship. It includes all the steps of creating a Directory. This includes the control and / or issuance of all relevant documents (eg Material Inventory), sampling and analysis, verification and life cycle monitoring.

Hazmat Certification: Its important role

The IHM (Inventory of Hazardous Materials) is prepared by Hazmat Expert , a person with appropriate training, certification and knowledge to conduct Hazardous Materials research to compile and maintain IHM. He or she must have experience in shipbuilding and hazardous materials management and adequate knowledge of IHM design, as well as all relevant International and European legislation.

Based on the above, ACTA - Technoblastos AUTh decided to proceed with the creation of the Certified Hazmat Expert certification scheme
